Rollover Accident Near Benson Sends One To Hospital

One person has been taken to a hospital for treatment following a rollover accident on eastbound Interstate 10 near Benson in southern Arizona, according to the Arizona Department of Safety.

The accident happened about 16 miles east of Benson. One lane is blocked and traffic is slowly moving in the area. Officials expect the scene to by clear by noon on Wednesday.

It appears the crash occurred when a tractor trailer and a ’89 Isuzu Trooper traveling in the same direction, side by side, came into contact with each other causing the truck to veer into the median and the trailer it was pulling to rollover.

Safety 1st Stair Gates Recalled For Fall Hazard

Dorel Juvenile Group USA, in conjunction with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), announced a voluntary recall of 100,000 Safety 1^st SmartLight Stair Gates.

The hinges that hold the stair gate in place can break, posing a fall hazard to children.

To date, the company has not received any reports of injury.

Safety 1^st SmartLight Stair Gate, model number 42111, is included in the recall. The gates are white metal with gray handles that have a motion sensor nightlight that illuminates upon approach.

The agency advises consumers to immediately stop using the recalled gates and to contact the company as soon as possible to receive a free repair kit.

Tractor-Trailer Crashes Into Chicago Rail Station, 2 Dead

On Saturday, April 26 a tractor-trailer exiting an expressway during rush hour crashed into the Chicago Transit Authority train station and a bus shelter, killing 2 women at the scene and injuring 21 others. The truck ended up stuck inside a stairwell that leads from the street-level station to the train's platform.

The Chicago Police Department are investigating the crash at the Cermak-Chinatown Red Line station. That truck driver was questioned and was taken away in handcuffs after being treated at a hospital. He tested negative for blood alcohol but refused to take a urinalysis test. His name has not been released and he has not been charged with anything yet.

Most of those injured were in the bus shelter or the train station stairwell, said fire department spokeswoman Eve Rodriguez. The truck didn't appear to slow down before the impact, witnesses said.

All twenty-one injured were taken to local hospitals. Eleven people were in critical condition, four of them are children. People who work near the station said the intersection the accident occurred at is very dangerous because the traffic lights change quickly.

According to engineers, the only damage to the station was to the stairs that led to the overhead platform. As of now trains on the Red Line will not stop at the scene until further notice.

Domega international Ltd., in conjunction with the FDA, is recalling Zebra brand sweetened lotus root seed and Zebra brand sweetened coconut because it contains undeclared sulfites. People who are sensitive to sulfites may risk serious or life-threatening reactions if they consume these products.

The recalled Zebra brand sweetened lotus root seed is sold in 6 oz. un-coded plastic bags and is a product of China, packed by Hong Kong Ever Time Food & Grocery Co. Ltd. The product was sold nationwide. The recalled Zebra brand sweetened coconut is sold in 6 oz. un-coded plastic bags and is a product of China, packed by Hong Kong Ever Time Food & Grocery Co. Ltd. The product was sold nationwide.

The problem was found after a routine sampling completed by the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets Food Inspectors. The Food Laboratory analysis revealed that there were undeclared sulfites in the recalled products. Sulfites were not listed as an ingredient on the labeling.

For people who have asthma, consuming 10 or more milligrams of sulfites per serving can result in severe reactions. Anaphylactic shock can occur for people who are sensitive to sulfites if they consume these Zebra brand products. So far, no illnesses have been reported to Domega International.

More Thomas & Friends Toys Recalled for Excessive Levels of Lead

In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), RC2 Corp. announced a second voluntary toy recall of Thomas & Friends Wood Railroad Toys due to excessive levels of lead.

The latest toy recall includes approximately 200,000 toys. In June, 1.5 million Thomas & Friends toys recalled for the same reason, excessive levels of lead in the paint.

The latest recall includes five toys from the Thomas & Friends Wooden Railway toy line: toad vehicle, olive green sodor cargo box, all-black cargo car and all-green maple tree top and signal base accessories.

The front packaging label has "Thomas & Friends Wooden Railway" in the top corner. A tracking code can be found on the bottom of some of the toys. Toys that are marked with the codes "WJ" and "AZ" are NOT included in this recall.

Consumers are advised to take the recalled toys away from small children immediately and return them to RC2 Corp for a free replacement.

Chrysler Recalls Jeep Commanders and Dodge Nitros for Brake Problem

Chrysler announced an automobile recall of about 300,000 trucks due to a delay in braking when drivers step on the brake pedal.

Chrysler Dealers will be reprogramming the control module on the antilock brake systems of 2007 Jeep Wranglers and Dodge Nitros and 2006-2007 Jeep Grand Cherokees and Commanders free of charge.

The company has received one report of a crash, with no reported injuries.

The brake delay commonly happens when the vehicle goes up hill or prepares for a turn, according to a company spokesman.

While the occurrence is rare, they have received reports of drivers experiencing problems when they take their foot from the accelerator.

Several Injured in Four-Car Crash

An early morning four- car accident, on Tuesday, sent several people to Yuma Regional Medical Center with non life-threatening injuries, according to Yuma Police Department.

The car accident occurred east of the intersection of Arizona Avenue and 24th street. Yuma Fire Department and Rural/Metro Fire Department both responded to the scene.

Officials are currently investigating the crash. At this time, no further details were available about the accident or injuries of those involved.

Officer Dies in Bush Motorcade Accident

A police officer died Monday, August 26, in a motorcycle accident that took place during President Bush's motorcade to the Albuquerque airport.

Rio Rancho Officer Germaine Casey, 40, crashed at the Albuquerque airport at a point where a road enters an underground parking garage

Casey was pronounced dead at a local Albuquerque hospital.

According to Trish Hoffman, an Albuquerque Police Department spokesperson, "Any time there is a presidential motorcade, the officers, that's part of their job, they drive at a high rate of speed."

Spectators told authorities that the motorcycle first hit a curb and then hit a tree. The motorcycle appeared to be nearly destroyed and the officer fell to the ground, where he was eventually helped by an emergency medical technician.

The motorcycle was near the front of the motorcade, and the president saw the wreck as he drove by on the way to the airport after attending a fundraiser for Sen. Pete Domenici, R-N.M. Investigators are going to have a full investigation about the cause of the crash.

SeaWorld Performer Suffers Head Injury

A SeaWorld performer was trasported to the hospital with a head injury after he fell and hit his head while performing in the Cirque de la Mer show.

The fall happened just after 5 p.m. while the performer was inside a large plastic sphere called a Zorb, according to a SeaWorld spokesman. The performer was transported to the hospital, his injuries did not appear to be serious.

This is the second accident to happen at the Cirque de la Mer in just a few weeks. In the previous accident, a performer suffered a head injury after falling from a 20 foot pole.

The Signature Gourmet and Kitchen Gourmet 12-cup coffeemakers, made by Atico International USA, are being recalled for an electrical failure that can pose a fire hazard.

The coffeemakers are white and have a glass coffeepot. Signature Gourmet or Kitchen Gourmet is printed across the front of the maker. Model Number (XQ-673B), Item Number (W14A4984) and date code are located on the bottom of the unit. Only units with date codes from May 2003 (0503) through July 2006 (0706) are affected by this recall.

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled coffeemakers and contact Atico International USA for information on how to receive a full refund.
